December 2009: Peabody, MA Third Graders Show the Spirit of GivingTemple Beth Shalom’s 3rd grade class collected “Tzedaka” (meaning “charity”) money throughout the first semester, and chose to help other children with Progeria by donating the funds to PRF. “The kids were moved by the fact that someone their age could have this disease”, said teacher Barri. And we are moved by their kindness and generosity.

July 2009: Dorm Students Paint Murals in Honor of PRF!Each year at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, the Residential Enhancement Committee, which is in charge of improving dorm life for students, holds a fundraiser in their tornado shelter. Blocks of walls are “sold” to the students, who then paint a new mural on that space. The committee chose PRF this year - definitely one of the more creative (and fun!) ways we have heard to raise money! “It was cool to spread the word while we were painting, because people don't know much about it”, said event chair Colleen Settle, “I chose this organization because it's a very serious disease, but every Progeria child I've seen has a tremendous spirit”, Many thanks to all the students for their artistic support.

June 2009: Interact Club chooses PRF for DonationThe Berwick, Pennsylvania Senior High School Interact Club (a sister club to Rotary) is a service club that holds various fundraisers each year, then provides donations to many organizations worldwide that they feel will benefit from the funds. Having watched documentaries about Progeria, the group chose The Progeria Research Foundation as one of their organizations this year. We received a donation of $500! Our thanks to Debbie Kern, the Interact Club Advisor, and all the students who chose to support PRF. |
